Measurement of heat transfer rate in a turbulent boundary layer with a multi-layered thin film gauge
Abstract
A new type of thin film heat transfer gauge developed to measure heat transfer rates with high spatial resolution and fast response for long flow duration wind tunnels is aplied to the measurement of heat transfer rate in a turbulent boundary layer. The measurement principle is based on measurring the temperature gradient across a thin heat-resistant film of SiO using two thin film resistance thermometers on the gauge's upper and lower surfaces. The accuracy of the sensor and the calibration technique are discussed. The sensor has satisfactory sensitivity, fast response, and good strength.
