Film boiling in a forced-convective flow along a horizontal flat plate
Abstract
In this paper, forced-convective film boiling in laminar boundary-layer flow along a horizontal flat plate is discussed. A mathematical model is presented to cover the effect of pressure gradient caused by the increase in vapor film thickness along the flow direction. An approximate heat transfer solution is obtained analytically for laminar film boiling of a liquid deviated greatly from its critical state. For saturated film boiling, the equation can be simplified to a given form. The effect of subcooling of liquid on laminar film boiling heat transfer is shown. It is concluded that the heat transfer rate thus calculated may be obviously improved as compared with the results reported in literature, especially for the region of low flow velocity.
