Normalized power spectra for FDM/FM signals and noise power ratio calculations
Abstract
Normalized power spectra representing FDM/FM signals permit the simple calculation of the noise-power ratio (NPR) resulting from the interference between FM signals. Such non-Gaussian power spectra are presently given for CCIR preemphasis, rms frequency modulation, 0.1-1.2 indexes, and top-to-bottom baseband frequency ratios from 2 to 20. It is demonstrated that signals with the same frequency modulation index, baseband frequency ratio, and preemphasis characteristics will have the same power spectrum. An example is given for the case of interference from a cross-polarized channel in the Comstar satellite.
