Crosspolarisation behaviour of series-fed microstrip linear arrays
Abstract
The factors affecting cross-polarization in series-fed microstrip array antennas are identified and, where possible, quantified, and the findings are illustrated with results from the comb-line antenna. The sources of cross-polarization due to geometry as well as transition and surface wave effects are identified. Geometrical effects are critically examined with respect to the various types of series-fed antennas of interest in order to produce a first-order assessment of their cross-polarization performance. Detailed analytical and measured results for the comb-line array show how further refinements to the calculation of cross-polarization performance can be obtained by analyzing a specific structure.
