Coding of real-number sequences for error correction - A digital signal processing problem
Abstract
Transform and convolutional coding methods for data compression are employed over the real or complex number fields. For these reasons, these coding methods are readily implemented with standard digital signal processors. An error-correcting code, on the other hand, requires special hardware for implementation. The present investigation is concerned with the use of codes over the real and complex numbers for error correction, as opposed to the well-known binary and other finite-field codes. The real-number codes considered can be implemented in digital signal processors employing standard arithmetic units. In particular, the codes can be realized in VLSI processors and digital image processors.
