Coupling efficiency of waveguide laser resonators formed by flat mirrors - Analysis and experiment
Abstract
The coupling efficiency of waveguide laser resonators with symmetric and asymmetric cavities comprising hollow circular dielectric waveguides and flat mirrors is investigated analytically and experimentally, allowing for waveguide-mode effects up to order HE(13). Results for CO2 lasers are compared with experimental measurements and found to be in generally good agreement. It is found that low cavity losses can be obtained even for waveguide-to-mirror distances of 30 cm or more by maintaining a certain relationship between waveguide length and mirror distance. Tuning techniques involving variation of the cavity length are demonstrated.
