Rippled wall mode converters for circular waveguide
Abstract
We present the general theory of rippled wall mode converters. Coupling coefficients for TE and TM waves, of both fixed and rotating polarizations, are calculated. The waveguide ripples considered may be axisymmetric, fluted or helical. We describe in detail a 97% efficient TE04/TE01 converter designed for use with a 35 GHz gyrotron. Cold test results confirm its performance.
