Convective heat transfer response to height differences in an array of block-like electronic components
Abstract
An attempt is made to determine how the per-module heat transfer coefficient for an otherwise uniform array of heat-generating, block-like electronic modules is affected by the occasional presence of odd-size modules or missing modules. A large variety of such irregular module arrangements has been investigated, and their corresponding heat transfer coefficients have been ratioed with those of a uniform array. The ratios are presented in tabular form. It is concluded that alterations of module height in an otherwise uniform array of modules will increase heat transfer.
