The onset of thermal convection in a fluid layer with time-dependent temperature distribution
Abstract
The onset of convection in a fluid layer subject to internal heating and transient cooling from above is considered. The dynamic linear stability theory is applied and the dependency of the critical time on the Rayleigh number, Prandtl number, wave number of the perturbations, and the cooling rate is studied.
