Nova Vulpeculae 1984 No. 2
Abstract
Peter Collins, Cardiff, California, reports his discovery of a nova at mv ~ 6.8 on Dec. 22.13 UT. Relay of the discovery by G. M. Hurst in Europe prompted P. Wils, Niel, Belgium, to confirm the object at mv ~ 6.5 on Dec. 22.79. Two semi-accurate positions have been provided via Collins: R.A. = 20h24m40s3, Decl. = +27deg40'45", equinox 1950.0, +/- 2" (A. Longmore, U.K. Infrared Telescope, Mauna Kea); and R.A. = 20h24m43s0, Decl. = +27deg41'12", equinox 1950.0, +/- 10" (J. Huchra, 1.5-m reflector, Whipple Observatory). Subsequent visual magnitude estimates: Dec. 23.094, 5.6 (Collins); 23.108, 6.1 (C. S. Morris, Whitaker Peak, CA); 23.928, 5.8 (D. W. E. Green, Cambridge, MA); 24.023, 5.7 (P. Dombrowski, Glastonbury, CT, via J. Mattei, AAVSO).
