Prognoz-5 observations of natural noise near upper hybrid resonance in the earth's magnetosphere
Abstract
Prognoz-5 measurements of the level of natural noise near upper hybrid resonance in the 50-1000 kHz frequency range are analyzed. Data are obtained on electron density in the plasmasphere, the form of the plasmapause in the equatorial plane, and the noise intensity distribution in the polar latitude-local geomagnetic time diagram for November 1976 to June 1977. It is shown that high-frequency natural noise in the aforementioned polar diagram in the invariant latitude range of 40-62 deg has a maximum intensity in the morning and evening sectors. This may be due to the asymmetric distribution of soft-particle fluxes in the nighttime plasma sheet.
