Geomagnetic precursors of intense earthquakes in the spectrum of geomagnetic pulsations with frequencies of 1-0.02 Hz
Abstract
An investigation of the connection between PcS parameters with earthquake intensity shows that the periods and amplitudes of geomagnetic pulsations preceding earthquakes are linearly related to the earthquake magnitude. On the other hand, the parameters of pulsations accompanying earthquakes are nonlinearly related to the magnitude. It evidently follows that the nature of PcS preceding earthquakes differs from that of PcS accompanying earthquakes. The first type of pulsation may be determined by the mechanical stress of rocks during the period of earthquake preparation, while the second type is connected with center fracture processes at the moment of the earthquake (though the superposition of these two typgs is not excluded).
