Streuung beliebiger elektromagnetischer Wellen an langen metallischen Kreiszylindern
Abstract
A technique is described which uses the scattering in a plane wave field to obtain the scattering behavior in arbitrary wave fields. The method is demonstrated for the scattering problem of an electromagnetic wave by an infinitely long, ideally conducting circular cylinder. It is concluded that the results for the scattering of a homogeneous plane wave most frequently found in the literature cannot be used for the radar cross section of a long, metallic circular cylinder. The described procedure can also be used when the scattering body is located in the far field of an antenna. In this case, the scattering field can be calculated only if the feedback of the field to the antenna current is neglected.
