The modeling of the field of the exciting waveguide in problems regarding the synthesis of flared horns
Abstract
Chaplin and Kondrat'ev (1981) considered electrodynamical models and synthesis algorithms for E-plane sectoral and conical flared horns together with an H-plane sectoral horn. The field in the exciting waveguide was described by a system of electrical and magnetic flow relations in the wall. The present investigation is concerned with an approach for the synthesis of flared horns which is convenient for an application of numerical methods. The results of a numerical study of two models for waveguide-horn transition are examined, taking into account the conditions considered by Chaplin and Kondrat'ev. The approximate models discussed provide a simple approach for the numerical solution of the synthesis problem. However, for studies regarding the matching of the obtained antennas with the exciting waveguide, it is necessary to employ a rigorous solution of the boundary problem arising in the case of the waveguide-horn transition.
