Pattern synthesis by use of an augmented Lagrangian algorithm
Abstract
A method is presented whereby an augmented Lagrangian algorithm is used for optimizing an array antenna. The approach proposed here is demonstrated by computing optimum directivity pattern and relative amplitudes for a broadside array of 20 isotropic elements, with constraints on sidelobes and excitation amplitudes. A similar computation is made for the same array without any constraint on excitations. It is shown that the difference in directivity between the two cases is only 0.011 dB.
