Phase comparison monopulse radar - Statistics of phase error
Abstract
In monopulse phase comparison radars, sum and difference beams are processed in order to establish target bearing. The employment of such radars is related to applications in air traffic control, missile tracking, and space antennas. The mathematical relations involved in the processing operations are considered, taking into account also the phase difference between two narrow band signals when noise or interference is present. Attention is given to a simple single integral which specifies the probability distribution of the angular error introduced by the presence of Gaussian noise on the sum and difference beams of the radar.
