New design concepts for switching regulators
Abstract
The driving of power FETs by small isolation transformers for pulse widths varying from zero to infinity, the development of a network for reducing the reverse recovery of power diodes, the replacement of diodes by lower forward voltage drop FETs in synchronous rectifiers, and the fixing of the frequency of a free-running converter through the implementation of a Phase-Locked Loop are some new methods which are presented for the improvement of switching voltage regulators. Appropriate circuit and block diagrams are presented.
