Effect of ionospheric electric fields on the thermalization of electrons in an underdense meteor trail
Abstract
The thermalization of a meteor plasma formed in an ionospheric electric field is analyzed theoretically, and the thermalization time (tau) and the stationary electron temperature (Tes) are calculated. It is shown that, when a plasma is formed in the electric field, Tes increases while tau decreases as compared with the case when an electric field is absent. In addition, a height dependence of Tes and tau is noted.
