Condensational transformation of distribution functions of atmospheric aerosol particles
Abstract
A condensation model is developed which makes it possible to solve inverse problems of the determination of condensation-nuclei size distribution functions according to supersaturation on the basis of a known aerosol particle size distribution function. Also derived are formulas which make it possible to solve the direct problem of determining the particle size distribution functions for arbitrary relative humidity of the air on the basis of any known nuclei size distribution function according to supersaturation, as well as the inverse problem. The theoretical results are confirmed by experimental data obtained over the Atlantic Ocean, off the New Jersey coast.
