Stochastization of the radiation field in a medium with a fluctuating extinction coefficient
Abstract
Fluctuations of the radiation field in media with three-dimensional irregularities are investigated on the basis of multiple-scattering theory using equations for the moments of the random radiation field. The application of this approach is demonstrated for the transmission of a directed radiation beam through a randomly inhomogeneous medium with a strongly elongated scattering indicatrix. Attention is given to the dependence of the rms magnitude of relative fluctuations of radiation intensity on the dimensionless layer thickness and to the dependence of the asymptotic value of the rms magnitude of relative intensity fluctuations on the specified C parameter.
