The possible effect of oscillations in the structure of a discontinuity on the set of permissible discontinuities
Abstract
Solutions to equations describing the structure of discontinuities have been studied in earlier papers and found to have a number of singularities. The study of the effective shock adiabat and solutions to the boundary value problem is extended to a wider range of the relevant parameters. It is shown that under certain conditions, the solution to the selfsimilar problem concerning the breakup of the initial discontinuity becomes nonunique and that the maximum number of possible solutions is equal to the number of individual points on the effective shock adiabat.
