Investigation of the condensation growth and evaporation of water droplets in air
Abstract
The results of Ivchenko and Muradian (1982) and of Ialamov et al. (1981) regarding the influence of molecular effects on heat and mass transfer processes in atmospheric water droplets are generalized for the case where the ratio of the number densities of saturated water vapor at a given temperature to air at large distances from the droplet can take on arbitrary values. Experimental data for 20 C and 10 to the 5th Pa compare favorably with the derived calculations, and the dependence of particle flow on the Knudsen number and on the accommodation coefficients is analyzed.
