The anisotropy of the diffuse cosmic X-ray background
Abstract
The anisotropy of the cosmic X-ray background (CXB) is investigated, subtracting model predictions of the Galactic contribution from 2-60-keV data obtained with HEAO-1 A2. Both the diffuse Galactic X-rays and the Compton-Getting anisotropy due to the sun's motion relative the the CXB (resulting in a more intense Galactic component in the northern Galactic hemisphere) are taken into account, and the degree of anisotropy is estimated as delta = (0.45 + or - 0.18) percent with velocity 397 + or - 159 km/s. These findings are shown to be consistent with the velocity determined by Hart and Davies (1982) from microwave and H I data and the delta value obtained by Protheroe et al. (1980) from Uhuru 2-7-keV X-ray measurements.
