The stability of stellar structure in non-equilbrium thermodynamics III. The PPI reaction allowing for mass loss
Abstract
In this paper we investigate the stability of solar-type stars whose structure is determined by the PPI reaction according to the criterion of excess entropy production [1] of non-linear, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, taking into account the mass loss in the reaction. Our result is: the star is certainly stable if the hydrogen-to-helium ratio satisfies the inequality x/y<8.916(1+0.563 A 3/A 1β -0.163 ay 1/1- ay 1) This is to be compared with x/y<9.2 , derived previously [2], on neglecting the mass loss.
