Approximate construction of SW radio trajectories in an ionosphere with weak horizontal gradients
Abstract
Decametric wave trajectories are constructed for the equatorial region, using an asymptotic progression that is based on the relative smallness of the horizontal gradients encountered in the ionosphere. The trajectories thus obtained are compared with those derived by means of a numerical integration of the ray equations; agreement is noted. Calculation results obtained in view of solar activity demonstrate that when such activity is low, horizontal gradients are able to exert a significant influence on the ray trajectories.
