Results of a mineralogical-petrological study are presented for a lunar regolith specimen (No. 1633) from Mare Fecunditatis brought down to earth by the Luna-16 automatic station. Investigations of the metamorphosed fragments reveal the intensive effect of the exogenic lunar metomorphism, showing that sample 1633 represents a mature regolith. The melted glasses are of a highly varied chemical composition, mainly depending on the metamorphic degree but always close to that of the basalts. Features of fraction basaltic magma are apparent in the most homogeneous fused glasses.
