A Simple Kinetic Model of a Multiparticle Cloud. II. Gaseous Streams in ALGOLS
Abstract
The kinetic model developed by Hadrava (1983) to compute the three-dimensional gas dynamics of mass flow in binary systems is applied to Algol-type binaries. The continuous-stream formulation, coordinate system, initial conditions, collisional term, and ionization subroutines of the model are characterized, and results for four models, two corresponding to those of Lubow and Shu (1975 and 1976), one with the parameters of Beta Per (Algol), and one with those of U Cep, are presented graphically. The results are found to be in good agreement, confirming that the assumption of hydrostatic equilibrium in the stream vertical structure is inappropriate. Consideration is given to the structural effects of adiabatic expansion, isothermal expansion, radiative equilibrium, and changes in ionization.
