Squared signal correlation and a possible acoustooptic implementation
Abstract
A new method of signal detection called squared signal correlation (SSC) is introduced. The performance statistics of the SSC are derived for Gaussian signals and compared with those of the conventional correlators. It is shown that the SSC's characteristics are compared with those of conventional correlators that use linear amplitude and linear intensity modulation. The SSC also allows for system simplicity at the expense of a slight reduction in the output SNR.
