Exact complex line shapes of atomic resonance
Abstract
The exact equation of complex atomic line shapes and the modified forms of this equation that are proposed here can provide correct theoretical interpretation of resonant absorption experimental data, in particular, resonance refractivity measurements. A description is given of the method of derivation, which is considerably simplified by introducing the dimensionless variables. To incorporate the modification introduced by the Doppler effect, the dimensionless Gaussian or Maxwellian distribution of the number of atoms dN defined in statistical mechanics is used.
