Double Stars, Physical Properties and Generic Relations. Proceedings of IAU Colloquium No. 80, held at Lembang, Java, June 3-7, 1983.
Abstract
Observations and theoretical models of binary-star structure and evolution are presented in reports and reviews. Visual and spectroscopic studies of individual objects and object classes, statistical analyses of collected data, and theoretical treatments of specific problems and general patterns are reported. Topics examined include the importance of wide-binary studies for stellar evolution and Galactic dynamics, UV observations of novae in decline, Wolf-Rayet binaries, a photometric and spectroscopic study of R CMa, magnetic braking in cataclysmic and low-mass-X-ray binaries, nutational effects in SS 433, mass loss in semidetached binaries, and constraints on cataclysmic-binary evolution derived from space distributions.
