Antenna installation with a 70-m-diameter reflector (RT-70)
Abstract
The RT-70 radio-astronomical installation has been used to perform radar studies of Mars, Venus, and Mercury, and to support Venera-probe investigations. This paper describes the main characteristics, components, and operations of RT-70. Antenna operation in the cm and mm ranges has been achieved by the application of the matched-deformation principle in conjunction with an appropriate mirror-displacement method and a highly accurate technique for the fabrication of reflector shields.
