Spectral investigation of the galaxy Markaryan 111
Abstract
A spectroscopic and spectrophotometric investigation of the galaxy Markarian 111 has been made on the basis of spectra obtained at the prime focus of the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory. It is shown that the southern concentration observed in the galaxy is in all probability a satellite in front of Markarian 111. The relative intensities of the observed emission lines are used to estimate the electron temperature and number density and also the abundances of some elements (He, O, N, and S) in the nucleus, in a condensation in a spiral arms of Markarian 111, and also for its satellite. It is shown that the gas in these objects is ionized by the radiation of young stars of the sepctral types O9-B0. It is concluded that the investigated objects are young formations.
