A WAM-FM telemetry system
Abstract
The operating principles, design, and performance of a sequency-division orthogonal-multiplex telemetry system based on Walsh-function subcarriers are discussed. A prototype WAM-FM system is compared to an FDM system, and the sources of crosstalk in a Walsh-subcarrier SDM system are investigated. Synchronization errors are found to be more significant in causing crosstalk than subcarrier distortion, and procedures for selecting the subcarriers for optimal synchronization are proposed. Block diagrams, graphs of the first 16 Walsh functions, and tables of numerical data are included.
