Torsional oscillations and diagnostics of the structure of the subphotospheric magnetic field
Abstract
The possibilities of using torsional oscillations detected on the solar surface to determine the structure of the magnetic field at depths inaccessible to direct methods are investigated. The research results are applied to observational data. It is shown that a magnetic tube which formed a pair of sunspots in which torsional oscillations were observed had a length about 10 to the 10th cm in subphotospheric layers and was arranged predominantly vertically. The magnetic field strength in the tube at large depths is about the same on the average as that in the sunspot.
