Wall shear fluctuations in a turbulent boundary layer
Abstract
Wall shear fluctuations were studied in the turbulent boundary layer formed in the top wall of a low-speed wind tunnel. A hot-film technique was used to detect the fluctuating wall shear. The data were processed to obtain the average time period of the fluctuations and the rate of zero crossings around the mean temperature. A relationship was indicated between the occurrence of bursts and the mean period of the fluctuations, with both being independent of the Reynolds number.
