Free liquid surface response induced by fluctuations of thermal Marangoni convection
Abstract
The effects of liquid oscillations and Marangoni convection caused by time-oscillating temperature gradients in a cylindrical liquid bridge of infinite length are investigated analytically. Magnification functions and velocity-distribution, pressure-distribution, and free-surface-elevation phases are obtained; and numerical calculations are performed. The results are presented graphically and compared with published experiments. The findings are applicable to floating-zone crystal growth in zero gravity.
