VLBI study of 57 flat spectrum radio sources at 5 GHz.
Abstract
A sample of 57 flat spectrum radio sources has been observed with a VLBI array at 5 GHz. Compact structure on the milliarcsecond scale was detected in 56 of them. The data for most of the sources can be described by simple models for the brightness distribution. The fraction of the total flux density contained in compact components is correlated with the type of optical identification and is higher for quasars and BL Lac objects than for galaxies.
