Strings in the very early universe
Abstract
Topologically stable strings with mass per unit length characterized by a superheavy scale are predicted by some grand unified theories. The presence of these strings in the very early universe would cause density perturbations δρ/ρ ≡ 10-3 - 10-4. Cosmic strings therefore might form the basis of a theory of galaxy formation.
