On the development of turbulent boundary layer in open channel flows
Abstract
Laboratory measurements were carried out in order to determine how the velocity distributions are developing along a steady and turbulent open channel flow which can be treated as two-dimensional. Local time average velocities and the root-mean-square values of the longitudinal fluctuating velocities were measured: the measurements were carried out by means of a Laser Doppler anemometer. Two series of measurements were conducted: one for hydraulically smooth turbulent flows, the other for rough turbulent flows. The results obtained are analyzed and discussed.
