The bursting phenomenon in bounded shear flows
Abstract
Streamwise counterrotating vortices; low speed streaks; inflectional velocity profiles; lift up of low speed streaks, oscillations, and violent mixing; and a sweep of higher speed fluid are discussed. The spanwise velocity component; flow visualization; and hot-wire flowmeter measurements are described. Shear layer instability and pressure distribution are summarized.
