Effects of rotation on isotropic turbulence
Abstract
Direct simulations and large eddy simulations are used to validate an EDQNM model predicting the energy transfer diminution due to rotation in an initially isotropic turbulence. The model provides a new transport equation for the energy dissipation rate which gives results in good agreement with experiments on rotating homogeneous turbulence and shear homogeneous turbulence. The EDQNM model is also used to develop new one-point closures which account for the rotation effects.
