Electrodynamic interactions between a tethered satellite system and the ionosphere
Abstract
The status of knowledge concerning electrodynamic interactions of long metallic tethers with the ionosphere is reviewed. Work on charged particle collection is recalled as well as ideas concerning a more global interaction of the system with the ionosphere. The priority goals of an electrodynamic tether mission are outlined.
