Inside a speech recognition machine

Illustration of speech recognition techniques by concentrating on a particular speech recognition system was presented. The system, know as Logos is designed as a flexible, high performance, experimental machine for research on recognition methods and applications aspects. Algorithms for connected word recognition on which the system is based, are presented. Implementing such algorithms in computer programs and special purpose equipment is considered. An overview of the hardware system architecture, pointing out ways that the properties of the algorithms have influenced the design is given.
