On the use of narrow band infrared channels to determine the outgoing long wave flux
Abstract
Narrow band channels of a satellite-borne conical scanning radiometer which are useful to determine the broad band outgoing long wave radiance at the top of the atmosphere were studied. It is found that a high correlation exists between the broad band radiance and the narrow band radiances in the window region and in 6.3 micron water vapor band. Inclusion of the 15 micrometer CO2 band does not improve the correlation.
