The turbulence structure of a highly curved two-dimensional wake
Abstract
An investigation of the wake of a circular cylinder directed around a 90-deg bend has been made using hot-wire anemometry allied to conditional sampling and pattern matching techniques. Profiles of the mean velocity and all the Reynolds stress intensities are presented together with uu correlation contour maps, instantaneous and conditionally averaged flow patterns. These results are analyzed, and compared with a new detailed study of the initial, fully developed plane wake in order to assess the effect of the extra strain rates on the inherent turbulent eddy structure of this shear flow.
