Adaptive and multibeam antenna systems
Abstract
The first part of the paper describes the major components of an adaptive antenna and develops general relationships and rules governing the performance of this type of antenna. Particular consideration is given to weights, resolution, degrees of freedom, weight determining algorithms, and the comparative performance of planar array and multiple-beam antennas (MBA). In the second part, a general description is given of an MBA, and attention is given to such MBA features as degrees of freedom and aperture size, performance characteristics, scanning beam characteristics, and the waveband waveguide lens.
