Simulation study of a UNIVERSE type network
Abstract
A simple simulation model is used to investigate the performance of the Byte Stream Protocol and Extended Byte Stream Protocol over a UNIVERSE type network incorporating Cambridge rings connected through a high bandwidth satellite link. The experiments show a marked improvement in the performance with increasing window size. The best performance is reached with a window near 20 for most conditions. The performance curve is, however, only moderately sensitive above a window of 8-10, especially with an appreciable block loss level.
