Satellite connected HYPERchannel networks
Abstract
The HYPERchannel networks are high speed, 50 Mb/sec, bus oriented local networks which are designed to interconnect major main frames, minis, and batteries of high speed storaged devices. Special purpose network adapters allow the connection of separate, geographically distant HYPERchannel local networks through a satellite telecommunication system. The HYPERchannel interconnection network architecture and present throughput results obtained from network modeling are described. For the interconnection network which is considered, there are two intermediate nodes: the sending-satellite link adapter, and the receiving-satellite link adapter. When satellite messages are routed through intermediate local networks via a series of links, the number of intermediate nodes can be larger.
