Landsat 4 - Measured performance vs. design parameters
Abstract
After 105 day in orbit, the performance of Landsat-4 is evaluated against the design parameters. All portions of the Landsat-4 Ground Segment necessary to support full Multispectral Scanner (MSS) processing, Spacecraft Operations, and Thematic Mapper Data Acquisition and archiving are found to operate at specification requirements or better. Landsat-4 continues the availability of MSS data to the user community with only relatively minor changes. Improvements in both flight and ground segments have provided better geometric and radiometric performance. The reliability and throughput capabilities designed into the ground segment will provide data to the EROS Data Center in a timely fashion. The performance and benefits of the Thematic Mapper instrument are being evaluated as part of a NASA research and development program.
