A digital phase driver for the swept-lobe lambda 8-cm radioheliograph
Abstract
The lambda 8-cm radioheliograph at Toyokawa is a beam forming type radio interferometer. To scan the Sun by this type of interferometer, it is necessary to shift the phase of the output from each antenna, proportional to the distance between the relevant antenna and the phase center of the interferometer. For this purpose, a digital phase driver was developed. The lambda 8-cm radioheliograph has 52 sets of digital phase shifters with 256 steps of 1.4 degree resolution. The present phase driver uses programmable read only memory (PROM), and covers the wide range of sweeping frequencies from 0 to 50 scan/sec. This driver can be applied to various kinds of arrays by rewriting the PROM and can be controlled by microcomputers.
